On A Serious Note:

As I ran this morning, I was thinking of what I saw on the news last night before falling asleep.

"A runner was attacked in the Orlando area"

First, I want to say to all of you who do your daily workout outside...

It is very important to be aware of your surroundings
AT ALL TIMES.

Don't wear headphones and be sure you pay attention to what is happening around you.

Anything can happen.
At any time!

Today, I want to bring home a few pointers that I learned while I was training
for my marathon years ago.

Please be sure to keep these 4 tools in your corner if you ever need to use them!

1. WEAR A TOE TAG!
This you can get at any running store (Track Shack) it is a little tag that goes on your shoe where you write in your name, address and an emergency number... JUST IN CASE.

2. BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS!
If you are alone that is the perfect time for someone to get to know your daily habits and then attack when you are least expecting it.  One thing I remember about training for my marathon was a fellow teammate told me that "someone is always watching".  At first, I was like, uh, okay.... but, I realized that after years of running... PEOPLE ARE WATCHING! Weather it be someone on their stoop having their morning coffee, the garbage men on their morning route, a man fishing in the lake you run around or someone driving by.  Someone is always watching! I am not saying everyone has bad intentions, or trying to scare you...  Just be aware... you never know!  If you are prepared you could stop a bad situation.

3. HAVE YOUR PHONE ON YOU!
I use the Niki+ GPS app.  It tracks online where I have been.
Plus you have a phone in case of an emergency.

4. DEFEND YOURSELF!
If you know these lethal defense moves you could save your life:

*It ONLY takes 7 pounds of pressure to rip someones ear off.
same goes for the windpipe
(and, how surprising would that be to the attacker???)

*Your fingers are deadly... poke, gouge and claw someones eyes out.

*Your elbow is the hardest bone in your body!  Use it!

*Kick or knee someone where the sun doesn't shine. :)

*Make as much noise as possible to attract attention.

*Stay CALM!

* Go with your gut!  If it feels weird... It probably is!

If you can, try to workout with someone. If you don't have that luxury, choose the most traveled route and be sure to keep your attention to detail ON.

Fab find!

is
one of my new favorite sites.
I find myself being drawn in more and more every time I visit.
It is a site where you can buy and sell handmade, vintage or art/supply items.
You should check it out if you haven't!

I bumped into this designer on Etsy recently and have found
myself thinking about buying a few of the pieces below.
The prices are pretty good... ranging from 50+

I heart that it is a family run business.
I heart the way the fabrics lay and are layered.
I heart the comfortable feel that each piece exudes!

Very dreamy, but messy...
very.... trendy.

What do you think???

My Morning Ritual!

I am a pretty routined individual.

It all starts with my morning cup of coffee!

Each morning, I put on my running gear and head for my favorite coffee shop.

As I open the door to Downtown Credo, I am greeted with a big smile and a knowing nod as I place my cup on the counter for later retrieval.

I then head out on my run.
All the while, thinking of the end product
- My Morning Ritual -
my cup of Downtown Credo's Coffee!

Ben laughs hearing me say that my cup of coffee is the "reward" for running,
but, it's the truth!

I admit it!

Grilled Artichokes

For years, I have cooked boiled artichokes
but, since I tried the grilled artichoke appetizer
at
Houston's Steak House,
I haven't been able to go back to the boiled kind.

My boyfriend didn't think he would like them, but, he is now addicted.

We eat grilled artichokes at my house all the time.

You can make them either as an add on to a meal or as the meal itself.

I cooked them the other night and took pictures of the process so that you can try them at home too~

Let me know what you think!

You will need:
a cutting board
a bread knife
a big bowl
a big pot
kitchen scissors
small spoon
2 large spoons
2 bowls
a paint brush baster
garbage can

Ingredients:
any number of large artichokes
lemon juice
sour cream (not non fat it doesn't taste right)
mayonaise
olive oil (I use extra light virgin - cold pressed)
salt/pepper
garlic powder

They remind me of my mom.

The Worlds Tallest Dog

I have always wanted
1 grey Great Dane and 1 fawn Great Dane
so bad
that
sometimes I search google
and look at the images people have put up of theirs.

While I peruse, I dream of one day having my 2 gentle giants!

To my surprise, while looking, I bumped into this...

THE WORLDS TALLEST DOG... EVER!

His name is George.

George is 43 inches tall, weighs over 245 pounds and is certified through the
Guinness World Records for holding the titles of:

Tallest Living Dog & Tallest Dog Ever

He started out looking like this little guy....

but now, he looks like this!

Runners-up...

The Real Housewives of Orange County

My #2

Lauri Waring

Always classy, soft and motherly. Lauri had her ups and downs on the show, but seemed to always clean up well.  She finally hit the love jackpot!  On her final season, she was madly in love with and got married to George, her knight in shinning armor.  She left the show a few years back but, before, had one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever seen.
I heart Lauri and George!
what a romantic story...

The other shows
I have to be honest

I'm not so sure if I have a favorite... yet.
TBC

here is my line up... here we go!

The Real Housewives of NYC
Bethenny Frankel

Housewifes fever!

I heart the The Real Housewives of... reality shows on Bravo!!!

Each day, this week, I wanted to post my favorite woman from each series.

I would love to hear what you think and who your favorite is too!!!

Here goes.

~ MY #1 ~

The Real Housewives of NYC

Bethenny Frankel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, yes, I am from NY so I think it does help with my connection to the NY women on this show.  I "get" their humor and their lifestyles...

Second, I have always had such "LOVE, LOVE, LOVE" for NYC that it draws me in even more!

Aside from the drama and caddy BS that goes on on these shows, I think I enjoy mostly to see what these women do with their newfound fame.  I believe it is easy to market products with the "reality" fame in your back pocket... but, in my opinion, Bethenny had great marketable ideas before the show and ran with them to pave her way to becoming the most profitable women from the Bravo series. www.Bravo.com

She has made over $120 Million since her debut back in 2008!
